Mission Foods Watkins Glen SpeedTour Returns; Highlights 70th Anniversary of Collier Cup

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (August 21, 2024) – The Mission Foods Watkins Glen SpeedTour returns to Watkins Glen International this weekend, August 21-25, with Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, Prototype Sprint Series Association presented by Hankook (PSSA), International GT (IGT) and Ginetta Challenge. With four days of on-track action, the weekend continues some of the most important traditions in motorsports at Watkins Glen.

“We’re thrilled to once again be back at Watkins Glen International this weekend,” said Michael Printup, Chief Operating Officer for Parella Motorsports Holdings. “The Glen is the birthplace of North American road racing, so to come back here with so many vintage racecars with SVRA, as well as America’s longest-running road racing series with Trans Am, and all of our other race groups—it’s just a really special event.”

MG will take center stage during SVRA’s Hillard U.S. Vintage Grand Prix as the featured marque of the annual Collier Cup. Except this year’s event isn’t just like any other Collier Cup event—it’s the 70th Anniversary of the Collier Cup. With MGs dating from 1950 to 1972, racers from across the country will gather for this special tradition that SVRA has hosted since 1985.

“This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Collier Brothers Memorial Trophy,” said Dave Nicholas, President of MG Vintage Racers (MGVR). “The Collier Brothers, Sam and Miles, brought MG to America and were instrumental in creating the SCCA and road racing in the United States. For the MGVR, the Collier Cup is the one everyone wants to win.”

In total, cars from eight decades of automotive history will take to the track throughout the weekend. Testing kicks off on Thursday, with Trans Am’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series taking center stage on Friday with their feature race at 4 p.m. ET. On Saturday, morning qualifying will give way to an afternoon full of racing, where International GT will be highlighted with a lunchtime fan walk before their final feature race of the weekend at 11:45 a.m. ET. On Sunday, fans will not only get to enjoy special feature races like the Dick Mooney Memorial Race (10:30 a.m. ET) and the Collier Cup Feature Race Celebrating the Memory of Bob Williams (3:50 p.m. ET), but they will also get to see the cars and stars of Trans Am’s TA/XGT/SGT/GT classes up close and personal during a fan walk at 12:15 p.m. ET, followed by their race at 1:15 p.m. ET.

Tickets for the weekend are available at the gate or online at TheGlen.com. Additionally, fans at home will be able to watch this weekend’s live stream coverage with select races airing Friday, Saturday and Sunday on SpeedTour.TV
