Description: A one-of-a-kind purpose built vehicle, this Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe was built by the famous Elliott Racing Team under the direction of Ford Motor Company Special Vehicle Operations in 1988 for Lyn St. James to set speed records at Talladega International Speedway. This was successfully accomplished on October 10-11, 1988 when she set 21 national and international speed records, including the Women's National closed course speed record of 212.577 with a top speed of 232.400 mph. The car left the track and Ford often used it as a show car, and in 1995 it became the property of Lyn St. James. In 2007 the motor was freshened and the car traveled to the U.K. to participate at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car continued to be on display at numerous locations, including the Daytona 500 Experience as part of the Women in the Winner's Circle traveling exhibit. There is official FIA documentation to support the history of the car, as well as photographs and other memorabilia from the historical event. It is featured in the salon section of the 2014 Nov/Dec issue of Vintage Motorsports Magazine. The 377 CID engine was built by Ernie Elliott. There are photographs of the car in the Lockheed-Marietta wind tunnel, and it was the first 40% scale model to be tested in the moving ground March F1 Comtec wind tunnel in England.
