2017 Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival
The Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, a Gold Medallion event returns to Sonoma Raceway. Over 400 racers will take center stage for this invitational event. The Gold Medallion salutes race cars prepared to the rules of the era in which they were originally raced. This year SVRA will feature the Sensational ‘60s, saluting the the design, technology, and social developments that accumulated in many of the racing series and icons that are celebrated today.
The challenging Sonoma Raceway facility is located in Sonoma, California. The 12-turn course opened in 1968 and features elevation changes, fast sweeping turns, and the challenging carousel. This event offers a wide variety of pre and post-race activities. The track’s proximity to Sonoma and Napa wine regions makes it a popular destination.
Some of the world’s finest racing machines will take to the track, some of which date as far back as Pre-WWI. Last year, over 40 million dollars was the estimated cumulative value of the Pre-War Group 1 An incredible collection of race cars, including Bugatti, Lotus, Corvette, Ferrari, Jaguar, and Alfa Romeo, will test the twists and turns of this world-class road course.
On Saturday night, a select group of historic race cars depart the raceway under a full CHP escort and head to the beautiful town of Sonoma. The cars take a ceremonial lap around the Town Square before settling into the Plaza for public viewing. These activities, and many more, round out a jam-packed weekend of racing. Whether you are a racer of a spectator, there is something to watch or do for everyone
