| LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 28, 2021) – Racers and fans alike came out in droves to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Mid-Ohio SpeedTour Vintage Grand Prix. With over 300 cars entered in the event, the Mid-Ohio SpeedTour welcomed racers from the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, FR Americas, F4 U.S. Championship and International GT. With vaccinations readily accessible in the U.S., fans filled the viewing mounds as cars packed the paddocks for a weekend of blue skies and fast cars in Ohio. Vintage races have become a time-honored tradition at Mid-Ohio as SVRA made the trip to the 2.2-mile circuit for the 40th time. The competition was each given two races throughout the weekend, in addition to an optional test day, as well as practice and qualifying sessions. Eight groups saw drivers sweep both their first and second feature races. After sweeping Road America last month, George F. Balbach once again swept the weekend in Group 3. Lisa Hansen also swept her second race weekend of the year after sweeping Road America, she took Mid-Ohio’s Group 8 competition. Group 6 points’ leader Scott Borchetta once again swept the weekend driving his 1969 Chevrolet Corvette. Ron Pawley, who is currently leading the Group 12B points competition, swept the weekend while scoring his sixth and seventh win of 2021. John Delane, the points leader in Group 7 continued his winning ways taking the top step of the podium. Stuart Crow swept back-to-back weekends at Sonoma Raceway and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca earlier this season, and returned to do it once again this weekend in Group 9. Meanwhile, a handful of drivers competing in their first event of 2021, were also able to sweep their group competition. Phil Stratford led the way in Group 11 driving his 1992 Ralt RT40, Jerry Robinson swept Group 12A in his 2010 Dodge Viper, and Jonathan Davis swept the NA class in the Miata Group. In Group 1, Tom Brown won the first feature driving his 1963 Triumph Spitfire while Roy Crowninshield took the group win in the second feature driving his 1956 Austin Healey 100. Group 2 competition saw Gregory Stamm take the first feature win driving his 2000 Van Diemen RF00K, while Michael Spence took the top step of the podium after driving his 1972 Crossle 20F to the group’s second feature win. Bill Schwacke drove his 1955 Chevrolet Corvette to the group win in Group 4’s first feature, while Paul Gelpi took the second feature win driving his 1962 Bobsy SR2/3. In 5A competition, Jeremy Treadway won the first feature race driving his 1986 Lola 86/90, while Rob Sherwood won the group’s second feature in his 2002 Carbir CS2. In Group 5B, Chris DeMinco took the win driving his 1971 Mallock 11B, before Robert Baxter, who finished second in the first race, overtook the top step of the podium to win the group’s second feature in his 1976 Bobsy SR7.
