San Diego Fleet Week Foundation Greenlights SVRA to Manage Race Activities at the Fleet Week San Diego Coronado Speed Festival

The San Diego Fleet Week Foundation is pleased to announce today a signed contract for the running of the 18th Speed Festival in conjunction with Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) September 19-20.

“Awarding SVRA this contract is a fantastic way to take this one-of-a-kind racing event to the next level,” says Brian Sack, Executive Director of the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation. “We look forward to producing an exciting event for San Diego’s military and our community.”

The “Race at the Base” is one of San Diego’s most successful fundraisers for the military and offers a variety of pulse-quickening events, including more than 250 historic racecars taking to the specially-constructed track on the working Navy runway.

Every year, all active duty, active reserve and their direct-dependent military ID-holders enjoy free admission to the event. Admission is free for children 12 and under, both military and non-military.

“We are honored for the opportunity to work with the Foundation,” says SVRA President and CEO Tony Parella. “We are confident that we can grow this event in prominence and stature in the vintage racing, military and local communities. We look forward to working collaboratively with the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation, civic and military organizations and the U.S. Navy to help fulfill their objectives, and to benefit, honor, celebrate and salute the men and women of the military and their families.”

SVRA provides thrilling shows for auto-racing enthusiasts. More importantly, they offer tightly regulated wheel-to-wheel racing for the men and women who own and maintain their vintage and historical cars, at venues throughout the U.S.
