Southlake, TX (February 4, 2013) – SVRA President and CEO Tony Parella has been invited to speak at the February 12th meeting of the Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving & Chowder Society (MASCDCS) at Sardi’s restaurant in New York City. Founded in 1957, the MASCDCS provides sports car enthusiasts from throughout the metropolitan New York City area the opportunity to mix, mingle, and most importantly, talk about cars on the second Tuesday of each month. All SVRA members are invited to attend and can make reservations by calling Mike Lindgren at 516.972.4304. Sardi’s is located at 234 W.44th Street and the luncheon starts at 12 noon.
Parella will talk about the current state of Vintage Racing in the U.S., outline some of the recent changes in SVRA, and discuss his future plans for the organization. A short question & answer session will follow. After receiving his invitation to speak, Tony commented, “Looking at a partial list of people who have spoken before this group, I feel extremely honored and a bit overwhelmed to have this opportunity”
About the MASCDCS – Since 1957, Society members, nick-named Chowderheads, have met at Sardi’s for lunching and schmoozing about cars. The late Vincent Sardi, a sports-car racer, volunteered a luncheon venue in 1957 for a group of car aficionados who had been meeting at Le Chanteclair, the New York restaurant owned by French racing great, Dreyfus.
Speaking of the group’s early history, late Chowderhead charter member, John Fitch once said, “We’d just drop in. Rene couldn’t accommodate a large group regularly, so we moved to Sardi’s, and the Society was born.”
Among luminaries that have previously spoken before the group are, Edsel Ford, Roger Penske, Danny Panoz, Bobby Rahal, Brian Redman, Phil Hill, and Steve Saleen, to name but a few.
