A Note From Tony On a Cool Vintage Event

To all SVRA members and followers,

I hope the summer finds you well. We’ve had a lot of great events so far this year, and more on the calender for the rest of season. Since there are no July events on our calender, I would like to point out a nice event taking place July 25th -27th, just north of Detroit @ Waterford Hills. I have spoken to many members who have attended this event the past few years, and it gets very positive reviews. After meeting Joel Hershoren (the event chair) at Mid-Ohio, I can see why. From talking to him and others, it is described as an event that is not so much a throw back, but a modern take on the old club racing weekend. Spectators, announcers, victory laps, with small grounds with great viewing and racing. I have not yet raced at this track, but I hear it is a very challenging 1.5 mile race track. Sadly, business commitments will keep me from attending this year, but I am sure it will be on my list to attend for next year.

The reason I inform you of this event, is so much that is unique to this event. Joel informed me that the race club and track are 100% member owned and operated since 1958. All net proceeds go back into the club for future events and track improvements.

In his email to me with “highlights” about the event, he also told me they have an on site clubhouse with bar, a Friday night all you can eat fish fry for $8.50, Saturday night Steak Dinner with trophy presentation, no charge for camping, and many other nice small event nuances.

So, if July finds you wanting to race some more, I urge you to contact Joel for more information. He supplied his personal cell phone number with these other links:
